“Complex Vibrations in Nanostructured Materials”

Vibrations in crystalline materials are now well documented. However, the theoretical frawework used to describe vibrations in crystals must be adapted strongly to describe vibrations in composites or in disordered systems. In this seminar we will show the specificities of vibrations in some nanostructured materials like beam lattices, glasses, quasi-crystals, and glasses with crystalline inclusions. Our approach is based on the analysis of the vibrational eigenmodes of these materials. We will show their connexion to acoustic localization, but also internal friction and thermal conductivity.
