Eric FREYSZ est membre de l’équipe “Photonique et Matériaux” du LOMA qu’il a animé jusqu’au mois de mars 2021. Il est par ailleurs responsable scientifique de la plateforme COSMat du laboratoire. De 2014 à 2019, il a été directeur adjoint puis administrateur du département Sciences et Technologies de l’Université de Bordeaux.

Il est directeur de recherche de première classe au CNRS. Il s’intéresse au développement de sources térahertz (THz) intenses et à leurs applications en optique et spectroscopies linéaires et non linéaires. Il développe aussi des sources lasers fibrées nanosecondes, picosecondes et femtosecondes et leurs applications pour la réalisation d’oscillateurs et d’amplificateurs optiques paramétriques. Il dédie également une partie de ses travaux à l’étude des propriétés optiques linéaires et non-linéaires de liquides, verres, polymères, cristaux (organiques et inorganiques) et nanomatériaux. Depuis de nombreuses années, en interaction étroite avec le groupe “Molécules et matériaux commutables” de l’Institut de Chimie de la Matière Condensée de Bordeaux (ICMCB, UMR 5026),  il étudie et modélise les propriétés optiques linéaires et nonlinéaires de complexes à transition de spin ainsi que les transitions de phase photo-induites dans ces complexes. Ces complexes ont également été utilisés pour mettre au point des cartes de visualisation de faisceaux lasers. Ces cartes ont fait l’objet d’un dépôt de brevet. Elles sont aujourd’hui réalisées par la société Olikrom et commercialisées par différents fournisseurs. Enfin, en collaboration avec différentes entreprises (SAFRAN HE, Europlasma, Fibercryst) et EPIC (ONERA), il a mis au point différents procédés lasers pour l’allumage de turbomoteur, de torche plasma ou encore le perçage de métaux et matériaux réfractaires.

Il est actuellement impliqué au titre de partenaire ou responsable scientifique dans 2 projets européen ITN (GREAT) et MSCA (SAInTHz), 4 projets ANR (HEROES, HSP, COCO’sMEN, LAMA) et 2 projets financés par le conseil régional Nouvelle Aquitaine (LHC, MultiSpectAp).
