Cavity-modified materials

Recently there has been a great deal of interest in using electromagnetic cavities to modify the properties of matter.
A primary example is the Dicke superradiant phase transition, where the system undergoes a phase transition to a state characterized by a microscopic number of photons.
In this talk, I will review how this debated topic has been recently elucidated and I discuss a few theoretical proposals.
Finally, I will discuss nanophotonics cavities and the possibilities open by these.
