Abstract :

I will show how it is possible to ‘paint pictures’ (i.e. arbitrary 2D patterns) using both static and dynamic light patterns acting on photo-activated bacterial swimmers. In the process, I will explain the design principles for engineering suitable bacterial strains for this purpose. I will also show that such bacterial painting in fact relies on a fundamental theorem in active matter physics.
