The 2025 Nobel prize: “for the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation in an electric circuit”

In this talk, I will present the physical ideas and experimental achievements that earned John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret, and John M. Martinis the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics.
By exploring their foundational contributions—from superconducting quantum circuits to the precise control of qubits—I will discuss how their work laid the groundwork for modern quantum technologies based on superconducting qubits. The presentation is intended for physicists from all disciplines with a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics.
